The Department of Education, Culture and Sport (DECS) provides study grants to Swiss and foreign students whose place of residence is in the Canton of Ticino. The information leaflet and application forms can be downloaded here.

Scholarships provided by other Swiss cantons

Students of Swiss nationality with legal domicile in the cantons of the German and French-speaking parts of Switzerland may apply for funding by contacting the scholarship office of the relevant canton.

"Arnoldo Bettelini" Scholarships 

The descendants of Arnoldo Bettelini, a Swiss naturalist and philanthropist who promoted the creation of a university in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland, are offering a scholarship to cover the tuition fees of a Master's degree at the Università della Svizzera italiana (Mendrisio and Lugano), up to a maximum of CHF 4,000 per academic year. Applications must be submitted no later than 6 p.m. on Friday 30 August 2024.

Scholarships granted by the Zonta Club Lugano Foundation  

The Zonta Club Lugano Foundation offers scholarships to students who are domiciled in Ticino, whether if they are from Ticino or other Swiss cantons or foreigners (C permit), and who are pursuing university studies. 
The amount of the scholarship is allocated taking into account the aptitude and scholastic results, as well as the economic situation of the applicant and his/her family and any other scholarships.

Scholarships offered by the Silvio and Marianne Tarchini Foundation

Scholarships for the academic year 2024/25

The scholarship is intended for talented young Swiss students, with priority being given to students from Ticino, for studies at Swiss Universities and Federal Institutes of Technology, for studies at Universities of Applied Sciences (SUP), for other higher professional training. Preference will be given to studies in economics or architecture or related disciplines and priority will be given to students at the Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio. 

Scholarships will be awarded taking into account the applicant's progress in studies, his or her or his or her family's financial circumstances, as well as any other financial aid already received by the applicant. 

The new call for applications will be published in September 2024.

Support for students with financial difficulties - Solidarity Fund 2024/25

The Università della Svizzera italiana undertakes to support, within the limits of its availability, its students enrolled at the Academy of Architecture, the Faculties of Communication, Culture and Society, Biomedical Sciences, Economics and Informatics, in the event that they are in a situation of serious economic difficulty, through the allocation of scholarships and solidarity loans.

Grants can be applied for between 31 August 2024 and 30 September 2024 for aid needed for the autumn semester 2024/25 and between 31 January 2025 and 28 February 2025 for aid needed for the spring semester 2025.

Reduced tuition fees for Swiss students living abroad at the time of graduation

In accordance with the General regulations for admission and matriculation of the Università della Svizzera italiana, a reduction in the tuition fee of CHF 2,000 per semester may be applied to students of Swiss nationality domiciled abroad when graduating, whose financial situation falls within the parameters allowing them to benefit from a Canton Ticino scholarship (art. 15, para. 2, General regulations for admissione and matriculation).

Scholarships for students from the German and French-speaking cantons ofSwitzerland enrolled in the first year of their Bachelor's degree

With the aim of further promoting the plurilingual and multicultural composition of the student body - which, in line with USI's objectives, has shown itself to be of great importance for Italian-speaking students themselves - USI makes scholarships available to students from the cantons of German- and French-speaking Switzerland. This grant is awarded automatically to all newly enrolled Bachelor 1 students and corresponds to the annual fee of CHF 4,000.

Scholarship in favour of students from the cantons of the German and French-speaking part ofSwitzerland enrolled for the first time at the Academy of architecture who intend to live at Casa dell'Accademia

The Fondazione per la Casa dell’Accademia offers several scholarships of the value of CHF 3,000 each for students living in the German or French-speaking cantons, corresponding to half of the rent for a room at the student housing.

Scholarships granted by A+A Maletti Foundation  

For the academic year 2024/25, the Agnese and Agostino Maletti Foundation has set up three or more scholarships in the form of grants and/or study loans to be repaid, intended for Italian students enrolling in courses at the Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio. Applications must be submitted using the application form issued by the Foundation and must be received at the Foundation's offices no later than 5 p.m. on Friday 20 September 2024.
